Fruit! All kinds of fruit that is in your area.
Look for strawberries, melons, peaches, plums, grapefruit, watermelon, berries, nectarines and tomatoes. Later in the season you'll find apples, pears and pumpkins at almost all farmer's markets. Local growers typically go for organic so they avoid using pesticides and chemicals to help the produce grow larger. We don't need those chemicals added to foods, they simply cause diseases and illness.
You might just be lucky enough to find a market that allows you to pick your own: strawberries, peaches or other fruits. Make a day of it with the family for some exercise, fresh air and family time.
Pick up a variety of peppers, onions, zucchini, squash, cucumbers, radishes, celery, carrots and any other fresh vegetables that are grown in your area of the country.
Clean all your fresh fruits and vegetables from the farmer's markets in your salad spinner. You'll remove all dirt, spiders and bugs that might be in the produce and even those tiny spider webs that can go unseen. It's also important to wash your fresh produce to remove any pesticides that could be used or bacteria. I'm sure you've seen stories on the news about e.coli and other bacteria that infects produce. It's easy and won't take long to get all that fresh produce clean and reading for eating. Don't you find that when produce is clean and ready to eat, the family will choose it more often? It's sure true in our house.
Buy large amounts of fresh produce in bulk if you want to do any freezing or canning. You can load your pantry and freezer up with enough vegetables to last a full year.
Fill your refrigerator in the summer months with healthy, organic, fresh fruits and vegetables that you and your family will love. They're crisp, juicy, loaded with vitamins and nutrients, taste delicious and are super healthy for your skin and body.
So, get out this weekend if at all possible and find out what's in season in your area now.
